❄️ Raúl Peña: A Passion for Acting, the Mountains, and Ecoon’s Technical Gear

Actor, adventurer, and mountain lover. Raúl Peña doesn’t just shine in front of the cameras—he also does when he laces up his boots, gears up with technical clothing, and heads out to enjoy the snow season. His charismatic presence and talent have made him a well-known face in Spanish audiovisual media, with over 28 years of professional experience across television, theatre, film, and music.

Since his debut in the youth series “Compañeros”, Raúl has been part of some of the most successful productions in national television, such as “Un paso adelante”, “Periodistas”, “Sms”, “La señora”, “El Secreto de Puente Viejo”, and more recently “La que se avecina” on Prime Video and “Machos Alfa” on Netflix. In addition, he has worked as a stage director, singer, and playwright, consolidating his place as a versatile and multifaceted artist.

Away from the spotlight, Raúl finds balance in nature and outdoor sports. The mountains and the snow are an essential part of his lifestyle. Skiing, more than just a sport, represents for him a deep connection with the environment, with silence, and with the present moment. It’s not unusual to find him every winter enjoying a getaway to destinations like Baqueira, Formigal, Grandvalira, or Chamonix with skis on and a genuine smile.

This past season, Raúl chose to trust Ecoon Sport to accompany him on his snow adventures. And he did so with a clear purpose: to bet on equipment that combines advanced technology, functional design, and environmental commitment. Garments made with recycled materials, resistant to the most demanding conditions, designed for those who love the mountains, and protect them.

In this exclusive interview for the Stories & Guides blog by Ecoon, Raúl shares his real-life experience with Ecoon’s technical snow gear, his favorite outfit combinations, his thoughts on responsible consumption, and how to combine performance, style, and sustainability on every descent. He also reveals some of his must visit snow destinations and personal advice for those considering their first winter adventure.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your next mountain getaway, ideas to gear up smartly, or simply want to discover the more authentic side of an artist who lives every experience to the fullest, don’t miss this conversation.

For those who don’t know you off-screen, what’s your connection with nature and outdoor sports?

I’ve always been into sports in natural environments. It’s my way of meditating. I like activities that require a lot of attention or technical precision. That’s how I keep my mind busy and disconnect. I don’t get that kind of focus in a gym. I only go there to train and prep my body for what’s coming outdoors.

How long have you been into snow sports? Ski or snowboard?

Back in college, I was an amateur mountaineer. I loved backpacking and camping out for a couple of days. I didn’t really get the point of taking a ski lift up just to ski down… until I tried it. Since then, I’ve been hooked. I’ve been skiing for about 20 years, despite work contracts putting some limits on me (laughs). I tried snowboarding for a couple of years too, but it felt riskier. I’m pretty cautious in all sports because I want to keep combining them with my professional life.

❄️ How was your snow season this year? Any favorite destinations?

This season, I had the two best skiing days I can remember in the last ten years. Even though the snow took a bit longer to settle, once it came, it came in full. I got lucky with cold, sunny days and great snow. When I’m busy with work, I usually go to Formigal. It’s close, reliable… and they treat me very well there (laughs).

What moments stand out from your time in the mountains?

I’m the type who gets up early, eats a big breakfast and skis until my legs give out. I stop a couple of times. I used to eat my sandwich on the longer lifts to save time… that was years ago (laughs). Now, like in life, I’ve learned to slow down and enjoy more. Sitting in the sun just watching the white slopes. Seeing snow blow over a summit on a windy day. And if I’m lucky, skiing a whole slope all by myself. I often shout.

What Ecoon clothing and gear have you used this season?

I’ve used several pieces this season and honestly, I’m really impressed with the results. The EcoExplorer Jacket has been my go-to on the coldest, snowiest days. I was genuinely surprised by how lightweight it is given the level of protection it offers. I’ve also worn the EcoActive Hybrid Insulated Jacket, which is perfect for those milder days when you still need reliable thermal insulation. The hood fits really well and feels super comfortable. For bottoms, my must-have has been the EcoExplorer Pants, durable, comfortable, and with a fantastic fit, especially on more technical descents."

As for accessories, I’ve been wearing the Broad Peak beanie on most of my trips, it’s warm, soft, and doesn’t itch, which I really appreciate, and the Glossglock goggles, which quickly became essential. Great field of vision, zero glare, and a clean, minimalist design that matches everything.

What stands out about the technical performance of the gear?

The jacket and pants were impressively waterproof. 20K is what we always look for in winter gear, right? It’s a great level of protection for people who don’t want to miss a single snowflake. I try to ski as many days as possible each season.

Breathability was spot on. I still get nervous and sweat more than usual (laughs). For me, being wet inside is super uncomfortable. The zippered vents were a highlight.

The Hybrid Insulated Jacket? Comfortable, warm and very pleasant.

How would you rate the comfort and design in real snow conditions?

We need gear that’s well designed, well made and built to last. Ecoon nails it.

I was really impressed by how light the gear was.

And thanks for making technical clothing that also looks great. Wearing good gear and not liking your pics? Not cool (laughs). I love your clean style, no crazy patterns, and colors that mix well across pieces.

Feels like I’m doing an ad, but I genuinely mean it.

Any gear detail that positively surprised you?

So many. Comfortable, lightweight, lots of adjustments and pockets. The collar zips up to your nose and the hood is big enough for a helmet. Essential!

The outer pockets on the jacket hold a phone, snacks, wallet... and on the inside you can fit a hat and extra goggles easily. Skipass goes in the sleeve pocket.

I love the reinforced seat and hems on the pants. I’ve worn out so many cuffs before.

The detachable suspenders with zipper? Awesome. And the stretchy high waistband gives great fit and support. Also... it hides your belly (laughs).

How important is it for you, as a consumer, that a brand commits to recycled materials and sustainable production?

Nowadays, environmental commitment is essential.

It’s nice to wear something new each season, we all like that. But let’s do it using recycled materials or supporting circular production.

People who love nature and the mountains know that every little bit counts. We’re always ready to fight for it. At least to leave the world as amazing as we found it. Or better.

A membrane made from PET bottles… Thank you!

Do you think sustainability, technical performance and style can go together? Does Ecoon manage that?

Absolutely! In my opinion, Ecoon gear is top-tier in development, manufacturing and performance. And it’s technical, stylish, modern, elegant… You couldn’t ask for more.

Any tips for someone heading to the snow for the first time?

The most important thing is realizing you’re going into a very different environment. Jeans might work in the city, but not in the snow. Technical clothing is a must. Not wearing it can be unsafe.

Stick to your budget or borrow some from a friend, but please don’t go without basic gear: waterproof clothing, sunglasses and gloves.

And if it’s your first time skiing or snowboarding, I always recommend going with an instructor. All sports with some risk need guidance in the beginning. That way we avoid putting ourselves and others at risk.

It’s an unforgettable experience, so it’s worth living it the right way.

What’s your favorite Ecoon combo for a full day on the mountain?

The gear I’ve used this season has honestly been the perfect combination for a full day in the mountains. Comfortable, technical, and with a design I love. What’s great about these pieces is how well they adapt to different moments throughout the day and temperature shifts, without having to constantly layer on or off. When your gear works, you forget you’re even wearing it, and that’s the best feeling.

If I had to suggest another Ecoon combo, especially for moderately active days with colder temps, I’d go for the Lisboa Short Jacket, which I really like for its versatility, it works just as well in the mountains as it does in the city paired with the Ventoux Pants and the EcoActive base layer, which is super comfortable and hugs the body without being restrictive. To top it off, I’d add the Alaska beanie and the Manaslu photochromic sunglasses, which adapt perfectly to changing light in the mountains and provide excellent protection.

Will we see more snow adventures from Raúl Peña with Ecoon in the future?

I sure hope so!

I’ve got plenty of likes left on your page that I haven’t used yet!

Thank you for everything.
